Dr. Barrett’s passion for personal leadership development is an outgrowth of his ability to overcome the many challenges of his life. Born of poor immigrant parents from Jamaica, Dr. Barrett unknowingly utilized the leadership practices discussed in this book to help him successfully navigate the crime-ridden New York City streets of the late ’80s. As Dr. Barrett faced the many challenges of young adulthood, he was forced into consciously developing his personal leadership abilities. Experiences such as serving in Operations Southern Watch and Provide Hope while serving in the United States Air Force and helping reestablish communications at the World Trade Center after 9/11 forced Dr. Barrett to embrace the leader within him and help others embrace the leaders within themselves.
Over the years, Dr. Barrett’s passion and work in the realm of personal leadership development has resulted in him helping people develop the leadership practices necessary for successfully creating and pursuing their life’s vision, improving their personal performance, and building self-confidence, resulting in their attainment of sustainable happiness. Currently, Dr. Barrett lectures, writes, consults, coaches, and facilitates workshops dealing with personal leadership development and its relationship to the creation and fulfillment of our life’s vision utilizing the Barrett Leadership Model™ (BLM). In addition to Dr. Barrett’s years of practical experience within the realm of personal leadership development, he has more than ten years of academic study in the field. His earned degrees include a BS with distinction in organizational management, an MS with distinction in organizational leadership, and a PhD in applied management and decision sciences, specializing in leadership and organizational change. In addition, Dr. Barrett holds professional certificates in project management, financial accounting, human resources management, and is a Six Sigma Green Belt.
